From podgy scientist to wellbeing expert, to helping others achieve their dream body.

I’ve always been a bit of a nerd when it comes to figuring out how things work—which is probably why I ended up studying medical biochemistry and doing specialist work for the Ministry of Defence (no, I won’t tell you what it was, and yes, it was cool).


But when it came to my own body, I was clueless. One minute I was training for an Olympic triathlon, the next I’d spent six months moving less than a houseplant. My diet? Let’s just say my insatiable sweet tooth was winning.


As I rolled into my late thirties, my waistline rolled with me. Never out of control, but the double chin and muffin top were definitely making themselves at home.


Then, as 40 loomed, I decided enough was enough. I went full scientist mode—researching, testing, analysing everything about getting in shape. Nutrition and exercise? Got it. But the real surprise? Psychology.


I used to think psychology was just fluffy self-help nonsense, but turns out, it’s the secret sauce. Understanding habits, behaviour change, and how to stop relying on useless willpower changed everything.


A few lockdowns later, I stepped out of isolation with an amazing body (so I was told), but more importantly, a mindset that could handle anything.

Why I do this

Life has a way of throwing crap at you. Personal setbacks, professional ones—but nothing hit harder than losing both my parents to lifestyle-related cancers.


One from a lingering cigarette habit left over from the swinging sixties. The other from a love of sunbathing in the Med without sunscreen. They just didn’t know the risks—but I do.


It hit me that so many people don’t know this stuff. And that’s unfair. So, I started writing about it. Friends reached out, advice turned into coaching, and coaching became my career.

Let’s be honest—no one’s signing up for a programme just to prevent heart disease in 40 years. We care about the now. How we look, how we feel, and whether we like what we see in the mirror.
